Disney Used the Disneyland 60th to Showcase the New Star Wars Expansions
First they kill Han Solo and then they force him to sell Disney tickets, amiright? This week, many of us suffered through the Wonderful World of Disney‘s Disneyland anniversary special to finally get a glimpse of the new Star Wars expansions coming to the Disney parks.
Being in the early stages, everything was still concept art, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t glorious.
Calling it “The Star Wars Experience”, presenter Harrison Ford said visitors would get the chance to fly the Millennium Falcon as well as battle storm troopers in what appeared to be two dark rides. Later images showed an upscale dining experience, in addition to being able to grab a bite at a catina or peruse an alien outdoor market.
Lots of aliens and troopers were seen wandering about as atmosphere.
Here is a link to the video of Ford.
A few news outlets are calling these Star Wars expansions “theme parks”. That is not the case. In California, the new Star Wars experience will be built in the upper left corner of the Disneyland park. At Disneyworld, the new stuff is being added to the Hollywood Studios park.
No idea on how long we’ll have to wait, but I’d imagine 2018 at the soonest. A few more photos and details on the Disney Parks Blog.
