I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more ‘Star Wars”! Amiright? Seriously?
We’re still five weeks away from “The Force Awakens” and while that’s practically insufferable, if you live at Disney World (hint: I do) you’ll get a little bit of relief come December 1st when the “Star Wars” festivities kick-off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
First, we’ll have the opening of the “Launch Bay” which is a designated area filled with exhibits, special merchandise and opportunities to get a photo with either Chewbacca or Darth Vader.
Then we’ll have “The Force Awakens” locations added to Star Tours. Not just added, mind you. But rather every trip on Star Tours will feature a “Force Awakens” adventure during the initial few months (after which they’ll become part of the random experience).
Disney released a sneak peek of the new Star Tours footage.
There will also be a re-imagined Jedi Training experience for the younger kids called, “Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple.” In this new version, younglings will visit an ancient Jedi temple where they will have to face Darth Vader along with the Seventh Sister (villain from the “Star Wars Rebels” series).
Oh to be 9 and not 39…
Finally, we are expecting a nightly “Star Wars”-themed fireworks show set to John Williams’ film score. That is exactly how every night should end in my opinion. I had a heard time finding exactly when that would start. I’ll update when I learn more.
Unfortunately, where there is good there is also bad. Disney has announced there will be no “Star Wars Weekends” in 2016. The Disney blog credited that on the start of construction for the 14-acre “Star Wars”-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Other marketing pieces pushed the idea that instead of select weekends, we’d be getting “Star Wars” year round. I guess we’ll see how well that goes. Personally, I am very disappointed to see the Star Wars weekends go away.
That aside, it looks like those of us hungry for “Star Wars” are going to be able to get our fill at Walt Disney World this winter. We’ll keep you up to date as attractions start to open up.
