The Tracking Board reports that “Arrow” showrunner Greg Berlanti will produce a feature film staring Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. It is rumored that Zak Penn, who wrote “X2: X-Men United” and “The Avengers”, is being eyed for the screenplay.
Booster Gold is a time-traveling hero from the 25th Century who comes to the past seeking fame and fortune.
Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, is a super genius inventor who combines his brains, and expert martial arts skills, to do good in the present. He is the second Blue Beetle, taking the mantle from his mentor who wore a blue scarab that granted him super powers.
The two were members of the Justice League after “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” It was there that they became an inseparable pairing. The feature film is being billed as a kind of a “superhero buddy cop movie” with an emphasis on comedy. That would be a big departure from the tone of “Man of Steel” or what we seems to be coming from “Batman vs. Superman”.
The Syfy network had optioned a Booster Gold series at one point, which unfortunately never made it to a pilot. Berlanti’s connection to the project makes a lot of sense as his forthcoming series, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”, will center around time traveler, Rip Hunter, who is Booster Gold’s son in the comics. “Legends of Tomorrow” executive producer Phil Klemmer said that the character of Booster wasn’t going to appear show as there were bigger things in store for him.
To add some sugar to the whole deal, a video went viral recently of Nathan Fillion telling an audience at Wizard World Chicago that he would like to play Booster Gold.
Hmmmm…. More as we hear about it.
